About The Owner

Joel A. DeTar, a Sedona general contractor, has been a resident of this area since 1973. Transplanted here from the Midwest, Joel graduated with honors from both Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood and later from Yavapai College in Prescott. Not long after graduation, Joel moved into the building industry to earn a living. Finding immense satisfaction in the creation of living environments with hands-on hard work, Joel rapidly moved to form his own company. Through mentors, too numerous to name, he became more than proficient at many trades. From foundation to decorative concrete and on to rough carpentry, drywall and the finest finish carpentry, he constantly was striving for perfection. While no longer wearing his bags, Joel is still widely respected for the attention to detail that has been so ingrained in him through-out his "hands-on" career.
Personal involvement on every job-site is what transforms our clients into our friends. I personally see to the construction of every home on a daily basis. Dedicated project managers, when required, are only the most conscientious and knowledgeable people available. I insist that all levels of personnel in my company have practical construction experience in the trades. The ability to interact smoothly with every individual involved in each home is paramount to the impeccable finish I demand on every project.
Sedona is a community filled with caring and spirited people from the world over. The prevailing mindset of most residents is that of harmony and community pride. This attitude, if you do not already possess it, is quick to become a part of your own make-up. The trend to volunteer, en mass, is one of the most wonderful aspects of Sedona, second only to the beautiful vistas.
This spirt of giving has led me to move to a position of trying to give something back to the community that has given my family and me so much. I have spent 23 years coaching youth sports and now that my sons are grown, I sit on the Board of the Sedona Community Foundation, which manages a permanent Philanthropic Endowment Fund, to benefit the nonprofit organizations of the greater Sedona area. The sheer numbers of nonprofits in Sedona is a testament to the volunteerism that pervades our community. I am also a recent inductee to the Sedona 30. This group is one of the largest fund-raising groups, in Sedona, for the support of area nonprofits in a more immediate fashion. These groups both have tremendous impact on supporting the people who make Sedona one of the finest communities to call "home".
To quote Aristotle on effective giving: "to give away money is an easy matter and in any man's power. But to decide to whom
to give it, and how large, and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man's power nor an easy matter."
These words ring true with me and help to guide my action in "giving back" to Sedona through the organizations I serve.
